It just couldn't twist its way through Haggard's condescending mind that such an enterprise was started by and for 'the natives'. Crichton followed the old storyline with a modern scifi touch. As my blood pressure lowered I thought on how this suited a particular attitude. The African, by accident was led to semi civilization by open minded Semites who looked to get rich too. So smart were the Semites they trained a species of gorillas to do the heavy work, rather than those unreliable Schwartzies, always cutting out to a festival or something. Makes me wonder: Did the Queen of Sheba and her retinue bring some apes with them. And these were the ones who built the Temple in record time and without union pay?
